Abraham Lincoln

Abstract

Scene of a young Lincoln chopping wood in front of a cabin. Above him is a cameo portrait based on the photograph by Alexander Gardner.Because Lincoln was strong and good with an ax, his father hired him out to work for neighbors. Under the laws of the time, the 25 cents per day that Lincoln earned went to his father. In April 1828 Lincoln was hired to take a flatboat full of produce and supplies to New Orleans.
