Dundee Discussion Papers in Economics 190:An investigation of the effects of analogy on matching games

Abstract

Analogy is now an active field of research in psychology with many experimental results available and some theoretical work developed. Within the economics literature analogy has made little headway and there has been no attempt to empirically investigate the phenomenon. A new experiment is reported which investigates the role of analogy in picking a strategy in a matching game. It is found that analogy does exist and its effects are consistent with the use of current theories of choice in pure coordination games
