Abstract

Indiana Avenue was a busy corridor of homes, businesses, clubs, and community organizations for Indianapolis African Americans during much of the twentieth century. A hub of black culture, the Avenue was a vibrant place of social and economic activity. Its musical tradition has been compared with Lenox Avenue in Harlem and Beale Street in Memphis
