Abstract

Col. Abel C. Pepper negotiated treaties for land with the Potawatomi. Each treaty required the Indians to leave within two years. In 1839 those who had not complied were gathered at Crooked Creek, west of Logansport, to begin their forced evacuation to a reservation in the west.
