Water Stress and Genotype Effects on Yield and Seed Quality in Maize (Zea mays L.)

Abstract

Page(s): 10 (2),213-223,14 ref.A field experiment was conducted in the 1998/99 and 1999/2000 seasons to investigate water stress and genotype effects on yield and seed quality in maize. The results revealed that water stress significantly decreased seed number, seed weight and yield, but had no effect on seed quality. The hybrid cultivar (PANAR 6480) significantly outyielded the open-pollinated cultivars in shoot biomass and seed yield. All cultivars showed similar seed quality attributes under both watering regimes.Khartoum University pres
