The nephron, the functional unit of the human\nexcretory system. is similar in its essential\nfeatures in all vertebrate classes from\ncyclostomes to mammals (Torrey. 1965).\nDifferences between classes are created mainly\nby the spatial organisation of nephrons within\nthe organism and it has therefore become\ncustomary to distinguish three spatially and\ntemporally different excretory organs: the\npronephros, the mesonephros, and the\nmetanephros
