A Novel QoS provisioning Scheme for OBS networks

Abstract

In this paper we present a novel QoS provisioningmechanism with real-time applications (such as video on demand,Voice over IP, online gaming or Grid computing) when traverseover OBS networks. Classified Cloning is proposed to providesuch applications a minimum loss rate while maintain the lowestend-to-end delay and jitter values. NS-2 Simulator has been usedas the simulation tool after developing new OBS modules for theevaluation purposes. An investigation for the performance of theingress node has been done in addition to the evaluation of theperformance of the suggested scheme. The obtained resultsshowed the outperformance of the suggested scheme over theclassical cloning scheme. In particular, the QoS provisioning interm of loss rate, delay and the expectance of enhanced jitter areguaranteed over the existing QoS guaranteeing-service schemelike using of the offset time for providing a differentiation serviceas those classical schemes will increase the end to end delay of theoriginal applications plus the incurred jitter. It is showed that50% of the loss rate has been reduced as compared to theperformance of the classical cloning scheme
